Andrea Pryor de
Manrique is a percussionist based in New York. Her presentation
of chamber works for percussion by Latin American composers
has won grants for three consecutive years (2003, 2004 and
2005) from the Queens Community Arts Fund and New York State
Council on the Arts Decentralization Program. Andrea holds
Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music (Percussion
Performance) from the University of Illinois in Urbana. Since
1994 she has been traveling to Cuba to study percussion and
Afro-Cuban folklore. In 1999, she won the John Anson Kittredge
Education Fund for research of folkloric musical traditions
in Santiago de Cuba. Her articles have been published in CBMR
Digest and Percussive Notes. Andrea has performed in the legendary
Casa de la Trova in Santiago de Cuba and has been invited to
participate in PERCUBA in Havana and Fiesta del Fuego in Santiago
de Cuba. She is on faculty at Adelphi University, Concordia
Conservatory and St. Joseph's College. Andrea is endorsed by
LP Percussion. |
